Intro to GoToManage
GoToManage is a search engine for IT that specializes in searching the complex and varied data of IT environments, and in returning rich data reports in table and chart formats, as well as simple text hit lists. GoToManage also includes applications that provide additional views into your data and logic that help you interpret your information and manage your infrastructure.
What does GoToManage consist of?
The GoToManage Platform consists of four core components, plus extensions:

Crawler — The GoToManage Crawler is all you need to get started. After you download it and get it going, the Crawler automatically searches your network, discovers your IT assets, and captures their characteristics. Then the Crawler securely delivers the data that it finds to the Search Index so you can search and analyze it. The Crawler is released as open source, and includes a simple plugin architecture that you can extend to gather additional data. |

Search Index — The Search Index stores your data in a discrete and secure location that only you can access. GoToManage organizes your data in a semi-structured format that makes it easy to search, and to reap returns of both simple text and rich quantitataive data. |

Web account — You can view the information that the Crawler collected and deposited in your Search Index, through searches, dashboards, and applications via your browser. You can search it, ask it questions, and save the results in text hit lists and rich table, chart, and graph formats. You can create and customize as many dashboards as you like to keep the data that's most important to you at your fingertips. |

Applications — You can also view the data in your Search Index through GoToManage's Inventory and Alert applications via your browser. Use the Inventory application to pull an instant inventory of the devices that your Crawler discovered on your network. Set the Alert application to let you know when critical events occur, such as when disk space falls below 5% or when memory usage changes. |

Use GoToManage Share-its — Take advantage of the intelligence of the greater GoToManage community by using GoToManage Share-its and alerts. Anyone — developers and non-developers alike — can make simple searches in plain English, which can easily be filtered to return very specific results. And once you have it just right, you can save a search query and publish it to the GoToManage community for anyone to use. Also, if you create that perfect server management, asset tracking, or you-name-it Dashboard view, you can share the template for the benefit of others. |

Participate in the GoToManage Community — Find out what everyone else is doing, ask questions, offer your opinion, participate in forums, discussions, and blogs. Use Share-its--searches and dashboards that other GoToManage users have contributed--to save time. Post your profile and receive recognition for your efforts with merit awards. |

Create Crawler plugins — You can develop plugins to extend the types of IT data that the Crawler can discover. Developers can download the source code from our Subversion repository. The Crawler has a built-in Ruby interpreter, which makes writing plugins easy. And if you want to, you can share your invention with the GoToManage community. |
