About the GoToManage® search index
The GoToManage search index is the data repository for all of the data about your IT environment that your GoToManage Crawler has gathered. Your data is stored in a secure and separate search index that no one has access to it but you. You can mine this rich store of data by running searches and queries against it, and analyzing the results in a variety of ways.

Your search index

Your network assets appear in an Inventory application on the home page of your GoToManage web account, populated by the data that your GoToManage Crawler has collected. Click any device type or other asset category in the left pane to reveal a list of the corresponding assets in your network. Click the name or IP address of any asset to drill down to detailed information about that asset. Here, you can set individual scanning rules for this asset, check its status, run queries against it, and more. |

Searching your data
The data that your Crawler collects is indexed in both structured and unstructured formats in your search index. This means you can ask questions in plain English, and get answers in rich table and chart formats, as well as familiar text hit lists. It's as simple as browsing the internet. You can search from any page in your GoToManage account. Plus, you can run quick searches directly from your Crawler. Here are some tips to make searching easier:
- Run a basic search using plain English.
- Run a search that you saved previously.
- Run a search that was shared by a member of the GoToManage community.
- Run a search using wildcards and boolean operators and other juicy syntax.
- Run a more structured query using PQL, GoToManage's SQL-like query language.
Structure
You don't need to know about the structure of the search index to use it.
But if you're curious, it is basically a
dual database that holds the same
data in both structured and
unstructured formats. This is
what gives GoToManage the flexiblity to store pieces of data that are related,
such as the name and the IP address of an interface on a device. That
means you can type in a simple search term like dell to
get a list of all your Dell machines, or a more structured query using
PQL, the GoToManage Query Language, a
simple query language developed to extract information from the search index.
Secure Storage
Your GoToManage Crawler stores your data in a discrete and unassailable location in a search index that only you have access to. When you log into your GoToManage web account, you get all the data that's yours, and only the data that's yours. And you're the only one who has access to it. Your login is the key to your data — no one else can see it unless or until you invite them. For more information, see Security.
