Wsus_summary GoToManage collects information from a WSUS server about the available patches, installed patches, computers under patch management, and the status of synchronization with the Microsoft website. The GoToManage Crawler collects information from a WSUS server and makes the information available within GoToManage.

How to set up your GoToManage Crawler to collect WSUS information

  1. You must have WSUS version 3.0 installed on a server somewhere on your network. This can be the same server that the GoToManage Crawler is installed on, but does not need to be. WSUS is available for free from Microsoft and is the easiest way to manage patches and updates for Windows computers in small or large networks. You can read more about WSUS and download it here.
  2. The GoToManage Crawler includes a WSUS plugin which automatically collects information from your WSUS server once a day. To enable the WSUS plugin you must perform some additional configuration steps on the server which the GoToManage Crawler is installed on.
  3. On the server the GoToManage Crawler is installed on, install the WSUS 3.0 administrative console.
  4. Ensure that the server the GoToManage Crawler is installed on has a trust relationship with the WSUS server. Usually this means that they must belong to the same domain. You should now be able to use the WSUS 3.0 administrative console on the same machine as the GoToManage Crawler.
  5. Wsus_crawler_logon Modify the GoToManage Crawler service so that it runs under a user account which belongs to the WSUS administrators group on the WSUS server. Using a domain administrator account is usually sufficient to for this.
    1. Open the GoToManage Crawler service in the Services control panel.
    2. On the Log On tab, enter an account that is a member of the WSUS administrators group.
    3. Apply the setting.
    4. Restart the GoToManage Crawler service
  6. It will take 24 hours before the WSUS information shows up in your GoToManage account. Each day after that the GoToManage Crawler will gather the latest patch information.
